The Austrian composer Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf was an important figure in Vienna during the classical period. He played in a string quartet with Haydn, Mozart, and Vanhal, and contributed to the repertoire of music for the Viennese double bass. He wrote a large number of concertos for various instruments and around 120 symphonies.
