Barber – Adagio

Samuel Barber’s Adagio is arguably the composer’s most well-known work. Originally taken from the middle movement of his String Quartet, Op. 11, the main theme was later adapted for string orchestra. This edition has been arranged by Dominik Wagner for double bass quartet. The piece is composed in arch form, featuring a melody that slowly builds in emotional intensity through shifting time signatures.
