Beach – Ah, Love, But a Day!

Amy Beach published her Three Browning Songs in 1900, a set of three songs which set poems by the English poet Robert Browning. Ah Love, But a Day! is the second of these three songs, which clearly shows Beach’s ability to illustrate Browning’s words through subtle harmonies and yearning melodic lines. In this adaptation for double bass and piano by Alessandra Avico, Beach’s work is re-imagined as an instrumental work which sits beautifully on the instrument. This song is available in two versions: one for virtuoso players and one for intermediate players, in a lower register. Accompaniments are available in solo and orchestral tuning.
