Bottesini – Bolero

The bolero is a latin ballroom dance that is characterised by its snappy Cuban rhythms. It has long been a popular dance form in the classical world, and its most recognisable example in this form is probably Ravel’s famous orchestral piece Boléro. Bottesini’s version starts with a slow introduction before erupting into dance, with his characteristic virtuoso flourishes adding agility and flair. Bottesini himself spent some time in Central America, which may have influenced his composition of this piece.
