Bottesini – Grande Allegro di Concerto ‘Alla Mendelssohn’

Bottesini’s Grande Allegro di Concerto is one of his most famous works for the instrument, and is a staple of the solo repertoire. It is not known exactly when this work was composed, but it is most likely a mature work in his output. Bottesini himself gave the work its subtitle ‘Alla Mendelssohn’, and the piece follows closely in form and character the first movement of Mendelssohn’s violin concerto, but with Bottesini’s own melodic material and characteristic operatic flair.
