Noskowski – Polonaise Élégiaque

The Polonaise is a type of Polish dance which is characterised by a distinctive rhythmic figure. The elegy, on the other hand, is an outpouring of grief. In this short piece originally written for solo piano, Noskowski combines these two ideas to great effect to produce this characterful miniature. In this arrangement by Cathy Elliott, the piano takes on the dance rhythm whilst the double bass sings a sorrowful melody in its expressive upper middle register.
