Note from the composer –
Chorale was commissioned by the International Society of Bassists for the 2013 solo competition in Rochester, NY, my hometown. The piece is dedicated to my mother and intended to evoke cheerful nostalgia for my childhood I enjoyed, while also exploring several extended techniques for the player, and blending American jazz, pop, bluegrass, and choral sound worlds for the listener.
Chorale for Solo Bass can be played in orchestral tuning or in solo tuning. The piece was conceived and notated for a double bass tuned in 4ths.
